STEVE STOCKLEY'S marathon bowls session over 24 hours would have cowed lesser mortals.

But the Parson's Green stalwart is made of strong stuff, and had two winners' accolades to show for four championship deciders that started on Saturday with the final of the London & Southern Counties (L&SC)

pairs final, and ended in the gloom of a Sunday evening in the Richmond & Barnes league (R&B) singles.

Experienced Kevin Andy Bennett and Kevin Stagg from the Broomfield Club in north London eased Stockley and PG partner John Goddard out 22-10 in the L&SC final.

And a day later the same pair had to settle for second best again in the R&B pairs - although this time it was a lot closer affair going down 22-20 to Masonians duo Dave Pitt and Barry Smith after coming back all-square with two ends to play.

But there was better news in the 1-2-3 final against Feltham Ex-Servicemen.

Former England champion Simon Jee disposed of Mick Thorn by six shots in the singles, with Stockley's triple team coming back from several shots down to tie 17-17. Goddard and Larry Mulligan in the doubles won by one to secure the win.

But Stockley wasn't finished there.

Just when he wanted to put his feet up, he was forced into a two-and-a-half hour war against Pitt from Masonians again that only ended with a final shot to win not only this match 21-17 - but a record third R&B singles title.
