A SURPRISE 33-23 defeat for Rosslyn Park at home to Worthing on Saturday has increased Ealing's hopes of snatching second spot in National 2 South.

Only top spot guarantees promotion to National League One - the step below the Guinness Premiership - but second place triggers a one-off play-off against the second beast team in Division 2 North.

The Trailfinders remain three points behind the Park in third place, but are still 11 points adrift of leaders Barking after the postponement of the weekend fixture at Vallis Way against Westcombe Park.

The game was called off just an hour before kick-off because Westcombe were unhappy with the pitch after a deluge of rain, although Ealing would have been happy to play.

All three teams have four games left, with Ealing playing their penultimate away game at fourth-placed Clifton this coming Saturday (2pm), while Barking travel to 10th placed Richmond and Rosslyn Park take on fifth-placed Southend.
