THE Centenary Year at Harrow Weald Bowls Club climaxed at its finals weekend when rookie new bowler Mike Harding -inhis first full year as a bowler - reached five finals, winning four of them.

He beat Peter Cozens 21-19 in the Junior and Lawrie Webster 21-11 in the handicap.

In the triples with Michael Kanjia and Paddy Harris he beat Hugh Martin, Jill Bonell and Ann Taylor 16-12 and with Derek Mowle beat Derek Trowel and Hugh Martin 18-16.

It was the men's championship which eluded him losing 9-21 to Mike Taylor who proved to be a worthy new Champion of Harrow Weald Bowls Club.

The ladies' final was a very exciting match with ladies Club Captain Rita Sellars coming from behind at 9-19 down after 18 ends to beat Olive Gray 21-19 with the deciding shot needing a measure to complete an exceptional turn around.

Other results were: Two woods: M Kanjia 21, T Ronayne 13. Mixed pairs: R Gross & J Bonell 24 , O Gray and H Martin 13. Ladies' pairs: N.Copplestone and J Bonell 22, B Jones and I Maund 20 . "100UP": M Taylor 101, J Wilcox 79.
