Ealing-based Polonia SideOut London booked a place in the semi-finals of the National Cup on Sunday with victory over Wessex Volleyball.

Polonia SideOut started very strong, with Katya Tsankova serving the team to a 7-0 lead. Aided by strong blocks on Wessex’s Vicki Palmer, they continued to dominate the court, and their comfortable lead extended to 20-9 before closing the set 25-13.

Wessex started to play with more confidence and variety in the second set, challenging the home team. Nevertheless, Polonia set the pace and with great use of the middle blockers and fought their way from 11-7 down to 20-13 up. The hosts kept increasing the pressure on the service, while Wessex struggled to put the ball into play, and Polonia took the set 25-18.

The third set showed no surprises, as Polonia could almost taste victory. Wessex did not possess the same fire they have started with and were soon down and out, Polonia winning 25-11 to take the game 3-0.

This means Polonia will play the final against Team Northumbria in Kettering on March 28. The last match of the Super8s season, meanwhile, is this Sunday away at Surrey Orcas.
