Martin Gould is through to the second round of the World Snooker Championships for the first time after a nail-biting 10-9 final set win over Marco Fu.

The Pinner Potter won four of the last five frames to book his place in the next round on Friday after a stunning display against the world number eight.

Gould, trailing 5-4 from the first session on Sunday, scored his second century (102) in three frames to level it at 5-5 before again coming from behind to taken the 12 th frame.

He missed an easy red to gift Fu the 13 th and the Hong Kong star soon made it 8-6 in the best of 19 contest. However, Gould claimed the next two to square things again before taking the lead for 8-9.

Fu took the 18 th  to set up a final frame decider, which Gould clinched with some more cool, composed snooker.
