MARK PHILLIPS says winning promotion with Brentford FC tonight will make up for the heartbreak of missing the FA Cup final.

The centre-back was ruled out for most of the season through injury as his former club Millwall lost the showpiece event 3-0 to Manchester United in 2004.

But the Bees will seal promotion back to League One with victory at Dagenham & Redbridge, and will clinch the League Two title as well if Wycombe slip up at Luton.

He said: "I was injured for the FA Cup squad, but this will make up for it.

"I was playing at a level where I knew I could play at. Hopefully this is the first step to get back to where I should be playing.

"We want to finish champions. The first concern is to secure automatic promotion, then we want the title.

"We know we're the best, if not one of the best, teams in the league. On our day we can beat anyone. It's down to us, and I'm confident we'll finish the job."
