Briony Martin is in the perfect job to heal her aches and pains caused by the Duathlon - the Parsons Green athlete is a physiotherapist.

She only stumbled over the run-bike-run event by accident last year after coming second in a competition at the Olympic Park in Stratford.

However, a GB triallist spotted her potential and encouraged to give the event a real go.

Fast forward to the Oulton Park Autumn competition where she won her age group and was third female overall in a field of more than 300.

This allowed her to qualify for the European Championships in Madrid - and yet again she was on the podium, this time for sliver.

Sixth in her first first triathlon at the International Triathlon Union meet in Hyde Park in April was another step in the right direction.

Oz bound: Martin

However, there is a fly in her medical ointment despite rising at 5.45am every morning to train before work at Central London Community Healthcare.

Martin has her sights set on the world championships in Australia in October - but can’t afford to go.

“I am not a funded athlete,” she explained.

“Race fees, gym membership, GB kit, hotels and flights for the accommodation abroad together with bike transfer have become almost impossible to finance.

“Even entering the qualifier is virtually impossible without help.

“For financial support I would advertise your brand on bike box, clothing and kit and it would be visible at high-end international competitions as well as daily training.”
