HOCKEY star Anne Panter was forced off through injury as Team GB's women suffered a shock defeat to China last night to leave their Olympic 2012 campaign in the balance.

The West Ealing resident was hit in the mouth by Ma Wei in the first period as both sides struggled to make a breakthrough.

Panter returned pitch-side in time to see China take the lead through Fu Baorong, and things got even worse for the hosts when Zhao Yudiao made it 2-0.

And although Crista Cullen pulled one back late on, it wasn't enough to prevent Team GB slipping to their first defeat in four matches.

The loss means they must avoid defeat against Holland in their final group game tomorrow to guarantee a place in the semi-finals.
