HILLINGDON Cycling Club members were out in force on Saturday to help marshal two road races organised by Scott Holmes in his home village of Oakley in Buckinghamshire.

Following a family fun ride Peter Jones was the club's only entrant in the six-lap race for second and third category riders which attracted 70 entrants, although he was blocked in the final sprint and had to be happy with 22nd place.

Later that day Roy May recorded 26mins 41secs in the Oxonian CC Open 10 mile time trial while Graham Weeks overcame windy and showery conditions to post a personal best 20.45 in the Antelope Road Club's Open 10 mile time trial at Andover.

The previous week he was riding well in the Eastern Counties Open 100 mile time trial in Essex until he went off course at 30 miles when there was no marshall at a junction, which meant his final time of 4hrs 52mins 39secs was not bad for 110 miles.

On the same day Simon Williams rode the Dave Griffiths Memorial 60 mile road race at Ottershaw and he got among some of the breaks, but had to settle for seventh following a final sprint.

Peter Jones was second in the Milton Keynes King of the Bowl race last Tuesday and on Sunday he clocked 2.12.01 for the Agisko Open 50 mile time trial. ..
