Five young girls from west London weightlifting club Stars for the Future returned from the Oxford Powersports Open with medals in their grasp.

Rosie Hogg, of Feltham Community College, beat her personal best by 5kg in the 75+kg youth category by lifting 47kg in the snatch and 58kg in the clean and jerk.

She beat fellow Feltham pupil Gabriela Magurann to first place, but Magurann still took silver with a new personal best of 30kg snatch and 40kg clean and jerk.

Ealing's Zoe Underwood beat her personal best by 2kg win winning the 69kg category with a 57kg snatch and 60kg clean and jerk, while Debbie Alawode, of Twyford High School in Acton beat her old mark by 8kg to win the 75kg category with a 40kg snatch and 45kg clean and jerk.

Double delight: For Tia Gayle (left) and Simran Barr at the British Development Cup

Another Ealing lifter, Tia Gayle beat her previous personal best by 8kg to come first in the U13 (58kg) group at Oxford, lifting a 38kg snatch and 48kg clean and jerk.

This follows Gayle's superb triumph at the British Development Cup in Alfreton, where she became year six UK champion, as well as the best female technical lifter title.

She achieved this with lifts of 30kg, 32kg and 34kg in the snatch, and 40kg, 42kg and 43kg in the clean and jerk.

Also in Alfreton, Harrow's Simran Barr, who should have been competing in the 59kg category but was overweight and so elevated to the 62kg one, took silver anyway with 40kg and 42kg in the snatch, dropping the 43kg, and 48kg, 50kg and 52kg in the clean and jerk.
