Matt McClure cemented his status as a Wealdstone cult hero with a dazzling brace that takes their play-off race down to Saturday's final game of the season. The 18-year-old loan ranger cancelled out Lee Minshull's 12 th minute opener with a rasping volley from Lee Chappell's missile throw after 24 minutes. He then put Stones ahead within ten seconds of the second half, smashing home a jaw-dropping volley from all of 45 yards for his fourth goal in three games.

The Northern Ireland U19 international recently signed a pro contract with his parent club Wycombe Wanderers and based on this form is likely to feature in Chairboys manager Gary Waddock's plans next season.

With main play-off threats Aveley winning 2-0 at Horsham Stones must beat Carshalton Athletic on Saturday to stand any chance of securing a play-off berth at the final hurdle. That will be McClure's swansong in a Stones shirt and you would not bet against him adding another gem to his repertoire of spectacular strikes.
