AN IMPRESSIVE 175 personal best times were achieved by Hillingdon Borough Elite Swim Team members as they got 2009 off to a flying start in Cambridge.

Sophie Wilson, Karley Mann and Francesca Marr, who each set short course National Qualifying Times (NQT) in various events, were the pick of the bunch although Mann produced arguably the stand out performance.

The 14-year-old recorded 2mins 19.0secs for the 200m backstroke which took her up to 46th in the British senior rankings.

Head coach David Hemmings said: "To record 175 best times in January is fantastic. The Christmas training camp obviously worked and the swimmers are now set to move on to better things in March at the Middlesex County Championships."

Clubmate Tom Randall continued his remarkable improvement when he managed 2.12.0 in the 200m butterfly, smashing his best by five seconds and narrowly missing an NQT. Sarah Proctor and Adam Prunty swam best times in every race they took part in while Adam Wood slashed seconds off his 200 and 400 Individual Medley as well as chipping half a second off his 200m backstroke best.

Fiona McAndrew and Kate Wilson both took a leap forward on all their strokes, McAndrew in particular, swam an excellent 2.55.61 in the 200m breaststroke.

In the Elite Junior Squad, Lorraine Bouch enjoyed tremendous swims in the 200m breaststroke and 400m IM, Paige Mann achieved some promising times and displayed real quality on the 200m free, while George Prunty, Harry Jackson, Leighton Jones, Louis South, Leon Berchie and Jamie Woodman all recorded personal bests. Berchie and South completed their weekend with fantastic swims in the 200m butterfly.
