Harrow weightlifter Se Gavin broke no less than three British U14 records at the London Youth Games last weekend.

He lifted an 85kg snatch and 110kg clean and jerk, but it was still only enough for sixth place on the day, and a joint seventh place for Harrow in the event.

However, there were further successes for lifters from Gavin's club, Stars for the Future, which covers all the west London boroughs.

Hillingdon won gold, thanks in no small part to the efforts of Noorin Gulam, who landed silver in the girls competition, and Gurdeep Paul, who was fifth among the boys.

Hounslow were not far behind, taking team silver after Dean Busaka's bronze for the boys, and a fifth place finish for while Ealing tied with Harrow for seventh place, with Kian Panjavi finising fourth among the boys.

Hammersmith & Fulham only had Hope Adams competing, and although she lifted personal bests to came ninth amongst the girls, there was no result for the team because she didn't have an accompanying male lifter.

Nam Ahmidi coached the Hillingdon team, as did Adam Mattiussi for Hounslow, Shila Panjavi for Ealing, Jaspreet Paul for Hammersmith and Alistaire for Harrow. Out of 32 lifters from 35 boroughs across London, 30 per cent of them were from Stars for the Future.

This follows the club's seventh place finish at the recent Memorial Edmond Decottignies in Lille, France, in which Ahmidi, Kian Panjavi, Paul and his younger brother, Gurpreet, all competed.

Ahmadi, of Uxbridge College, made a personal best in his snatch with 96kg, plus 120kg clean and jerk, in the 65kg categrory, while Panjavi, of Brentside High school, also had a personal best in of 84kg sntach and 100kg clean and jerk in the 66kg.

Jaspreet Paul was another to lift a personal best of 70kg snatch and 87kg clean and jerk in the 59kg, while Gurdeep, returning from a back injury, managed a 77kg and 91kg clean and jerk in the 65kg.

If Mattiussi and Shila Panjavi had been able to attend and gain their expected first places, it would have lifted the club's final placing up to second.
