The new Wembley Stadium witnessed England's first competitive match of the new season as the Three Lions maintained a winning start in their World Cup qualifying campaign.

England eased past footballing minnows Kazakhstan 5-1 on Saturday.

England cemented their position at the top of Group Six thanks to second-half goals from Jermain Defoe, captain Rio Ferdinand, an own goal and a brace from Wayne Rooney.

It follows successive victories in Andorra and Croatia and puts them in pole position to make the 2010 World Cup in South Africa.

They were set to meet Belarus in their latest fixture last night, aiming to make it four wins out of four.
