FRANK Lampard is set to sign a one-year contract extension at Chelsea.

The midfielder's current deal expires at the end of the season and his future has been the subject of speculation for most of the current campaign.

Lampard has been in red-hot form in recent weeks and became the club’s record goalscorer last weekend when he overtook Bobby Tambling.

Blues owner Roman Abramovich had initially been reluctant to retain a player who turns 35 next month.

However, as we told you in February , his performances on the pitch and the clamour from the Stamford Bridge faithful appears to have turned the tide.

A deal is now understood to have been agreed between the two parties and Lampard could sign on the dotted line in front of the crowd in Sunday’s clash with Everton.

He had previously stated his intention to sit down and discuss a deal after the Toffees match, however his representatives have been working behind the scenes.

With John Terry unlikely to be fit to start tonight’s Europa League Final in Amsterdam, Lampard is set to skipper the side against Benfica.
