KENTON Road Club's Carl Bond rode his fastest 25 mile time trial of the year, finishing with a 58.27 in the Westerley CC event on the Marlow-Twyford 'ski jump' course on Sunday.

Finishing 23rd from the 68 starters, this was Carl's 61st time under the hour since starting racing. Race winner was R Simmons with a fast 50.27.

In the Central Division Road Championships support race over 55 miles at Cublington, near Milton Keynes, Kenton's Greg Cremen finished in the bunch after a comfortable ride, despite very few training miles.

In the 'big event' over 85 miles, one time Kenton member Tony Gibb, now riding with the PCA pro team, stubbed out all opposition by attacking with a lap to go, and soloing to the finish.

A chase group closed from 30 seconds to five seconds in the last few miles, but they were unable to catch the flying Gibb.

Kenton's Paul Dolbey took part in the Three Counties sponsored charity ride on Sunday.

Based on Bracknell, Paul, 80, chose to ride the 30 mile event and not the hillier 50 mile distance.

Finishing in just over three hours, and often delayed by the congestion of the 600 plus riders taking part, Paul received both a medal and a certificate.

In 2008 the organisers hope to raise around £50,000 for this annual event.

The funeral of Kenton's only life member, Peter Peppler, took place at Ipswich Crematorium last Thursday.

Eleven club members attended, including Gino Goddard, Doug Cannings and Duncan Smith from the Harrow area, Brian Murphy from High Wycombe, Bobbie and Dave Mee from Amersham, Peter Boucherat from Felixstowe, Megan and Dennis O'Connell from Diss, and Elaine and John Watson from Gorleston-on-Sea.
