KARLEY Mann grabbed a bronze medal to cap a fine effort by Hillingdon Swimming Club at the British National Age Group and Youth Championships.

The 13-year-old, one of seven members who excelled just by getting to the Sheffield event where they competed against the best young swimmers in the UK, recorded a time of 2mins 22.93secs to finish an excellent third in the 200m backstroke.

She reached three other individual finals, finishing fourth in the 200m medley in 2.26.00, sixth in the 400m medley in 5.05.91 and 10th in the 200m freestyle in 2.11.00.

Mann was also 11th in the 200m butterfly in 2.28.76 and 14th in the 200m breaststroke in 2.49.92.

The swimmers had been training up to eight times a week to deliver their best performance and head coach David Hemmings said: "All of the team swam fantastic and can be very proud of their performances, in particularly Karley who made four individual finals and put the icing on the cake with a bronze medal."

Sophie Wilson, 14, was eighth in the 200m breaststroke with 2.44.14, eighth in the 200m medley in 2.28.52, ninth in the 100m breaststroke in 1.17.9 and 10th in the 400m medley in 5.13.11.

Adam Wood grabbed 13th in the 200m backstroke in 2.23.19 and the 13-year-old was 23rd in the 1500m freestyle in 18.05.42, while Sarah Procter, 12, finished 25th in the 100m freestyle with a time of 1.04.29.

Mann, Lucy Taplin, Procter and Jaycee Sibley combined to finish 25th in the 11 to 13-year-old 4x100m freestyle relay and Mann, Procter, Sibley and Fiona McAndrew managed 20th in the 4x100m medley.

Meanwhile, 15-year-old Francesca Marr went one step further by competing for Great Britain in the European Junior Championships in Belgrade. She swam the 50m breaststroke in the 16 and under age group, finishing 22nd with a time of 34.79secs and she was 25th in the 100m breaststroke in 1.15.34.

Marr said: "It was an absolute honour to represent my country and makes all my demanding training worthwhile."
