Michaela Hutchison upset the odds to land an impressive win double in the semi-final of the McCain Indoor Inter-City Cup, at the Lea Valley Indoor Arena on Saturday.
Representing the London North team the Hillingdon AC member first took part in the 800m in which Birmingham's Celia
Brown, the fastest in the field by more than four seconds, was the pre-race favourite.
Belfast athlete Ciara Mageehan set the pace and for the first two and a half laps Hutchison was tucked in behind her with Brown on the outside.
As they came to the bell with 200m to go she dropped back to give herself room to come around the outside and cover Brown's expected surge.
The three were side by side down the back straight but as they came into the final bend Hutchison unleashed a devastating kick to move smoothly away and win a well judged race in 2mins 10.10secs.
Hutchison then ran the 600m leg in the medley relay and she was given a lead of six metres by Harriet Scott, who ran the 800m section of the two-legged event.
The Hillingdon athlete then stormed home to another victory, moving further clear with every stride to triumph by 60 metres and win high praise from race commentator, Eurosport's Tim Hutchins, who hailed it as a superb exhibition of smooth and powerful running.
