A RACING trip on the continent led to Hounslow & District Wheelers' Paul Holdsworth missing out on silverware in the Surrey League road race series.

Holdsworth missed the first of the three-race series three weeks ago when he travelled to Spain to take part in the European Masters Tour of Majorca, for racers aged between 30 and 49.

Returning home to the road race series, he took second place in the second event, and third in the final one last Sunday.

Holdsworth was then told by the organisers that not only would he have won the most aggressive rider award had he ridden all three races, but would also have been in contention for the main prize.

Instead, despite two top three finishes, he didn't have enough points to trouble the front-runners.

To rub salt into the wounds, but for a crash on the last stage of the Masters Tour, and a 10-minute wait for a new tyre, Holdsworth would have finished much higher than 28th (12th in the 40-49 age group).
