MBBO DIVISION ONE

Oxford Hawks 1

Eastcote 0

Third-placed Eastcote could not knock league leaders Oxford Hawks off their perch as they missed out on the chance to close the gap at the top.

Hawks narrowly won 1-0 due to a hotly-contested penalty stroke to maintain their position at the top of the pile.

The visitors had several chances throughout but failed to convert as they were left to rue missed opportunities.

Eastcote have displayed some excellent attacking play in recent weeks and continued this weekend with the best chances going to Kevin Haigh, who can count himself very unlucky not to have found the net at least once.

This was a very frustrating afternoon for the Boars, who take on Wycombe at home on Saturday.

The seconds played Bracknell in a top-two clash with the home side coming out 5-1 winners with a brace from Ben Thorpe and one each from David Cooper, Gabriel Emery and Ian Sadler.

Jimmy Thomas netted three times over the weekend for the 3rds as they had a double header, emerging victorious with a 1-0 win at Wokingham on Saturday, before beating Marlow 2-1 on Sunday.

The fourths remained top after beating West Hampstead 3-0, while it is back-to-back wins now for the fifths as they beat Ashford 2-1 with Chris Maclannan scoring both. A Chris Butler hat-trick was enough for the 6ths as they beat Maidenhead.

Eastcote Eagles lost 4-0 to West Hampstead, but the two veteran sides both recorded wins with the Old Boars coming out on top in a 9-4 thriller and the Past Masters beating Wimbledon 2-0.

Meanwhile, Eastcote Ladies were back in league action against Marlow, who sit just above them in the table.

A tight first-half saw both teams reach the break with the score still at 0-0, but a more open second saw Marlow take the lead from a short corner before Catherine Ashton levelled with five minutes to play.

Marlow took the lead again almost immediately from another short corner and then, with the home side looking to get another late equaliser, Marlow finished the game on the break.

Elsewhere, the ladies’ seconds match was postponed due to a frozen pitch and the thirds suffered a heavy 6-0 defeat to West Hampstead, but the fourths remain top, beating PHC Chiswick 4-0, with goals from Emily Walker, Sophie Norman, Georgie Cooper and Cerys Edwards. The fifths lost 3-0 to West Hampstead.

Old Uxonians were beaten 2-1 by PHC Chiswick fourths. Robyn Goodwin got the goal for the Uxies.
