Improving Hillingdon went two better than last year’s fourth place finish at the Balfour Beatty London Youth Games BMX competition by winning a silver medal at Burgess Park BMX, in Southwark.
Individual bronze medals for Stephanie Webb and Ross Dell, as well as a silver for Dylan Merrick, secured second place for their borough against 21 other teams in the fourth LYG BMX event.
Hackney won gold and Lambeth went home with bronze.
The success was down to the team’s determination according to Hillingdon team manager Dawn Binnington.
“It feels fantastic,” she said.
“They all came together at the end and we had an excellent team. They never gave up, they all did their very best and if they didn’t come first, they didn’t get upset about it, they just tried harder.”
BMX is one of 33 sports in the 2015 Balfour Beatty London Youth Games.
The London Youth Games is Europe’s largest annual youth sports event and is driving the legacy for increased participation in competitive sport and volunteering for young Londoners.
A record 126,897 young Londoners took part in the record-breaking 2014 Balfour Beatty London Youth Games, taking the event to more than one million participants since it first launched in 1977.
