MIDDLESEX JUNIOR CUP FINAL

Kensington Dragons 5 HAYES GATE RESERVES 5 (AET. Score 4-4 at 90 minutes. Hayes Gate won 5-4 in penalty shoot-out)

SATURDAY night fever erupted when Hayes Gate keeper Perry Cheadle got a hand to a spot-kick in the penalty shoot-out to win the Middlesex Junior Cup - but it was team-mate Danny Barrance who picked up the match ball.

The Hayes Gate Reserves striker notched a hat-trick in the pouring rain at Yeading FC - but in truth Gate will be mighty pleased they came up with a Kensington Dragons keeper Dracula-like in his fear of crosses.

It allowed the Hayes side to trail by two twice but still find the spirit to keep going and come good when it mattered.

Gate got off to the worst possible start when they conceded from a close header after just 53 seconds. It got worse 23 minutes later when Dragons doubled their luck from range.

But already the shaky showing of Kensington keeper Alvydas Ceponis made Hayes corners almost as good as point-blank free-kicks. And Andy McCulloch's header,to go with Terry Barrance's bundled effort from set-pieces, pulled the score back to 2-2.

Dragons were 4-2 ahead less than two minutes into the second-half,with their third goal from rangy forward Lamelle Williams.

His 35-yard rocket left Cheadle with no chance, but Danny Barrance's glancing header, followed by his cheeky back-heel, tied up the scores at the end of normal time.

Ref Laurence Benson then took centre stage, awarding a dubious second to Williams after he tried to drag the shirt off Terry Barrance's back in the first period of extra time.

But the Hayes defender's brother completed his hat-trick when ref Benson also gifted Gate a penalty straight after. And after Cheadle became the only keeper to stop a penalty in the shoot-out, the Barrance brothers show was complete when Terry notched the winner.
