Simon Bishop, a PGA Golf Professional based at Harrow Hill Golf Course, today launches his first campaign to win a place on the 2009 PGA Seniors Tour.
A former European Tour and British Open player, 50-year-old Bishop has been practicing hard this year and is currently in Portugal to play the first two qualifying rounds at host club, Pinheiros Altos, on the Algarve.
This year marks the 16th staging of the Seniors Tour Qualifying School with more than 150 players expected to try to win their card for next
season. The European Seniors Tour is played on courses throughout the world and boasts former Ryder cup stars Ian Woosnam, Bernard Langer and Sam Torrance as regular players, all of whom Bishop played alongside during a decade on the European Tour in the1980s.
"I'm thoroughly enjoying being back in the competition atmosphere amongst old friends," said Bishop, who won three French Federation tournaments on the European Tour. "I relish the challenge of the qualifying school this week."
