Camogie: Bid Grennan's 1-4 haul ensured that Tara overcame Fr Murphys by 4-6 to 1-4 in the Senior Championship on Sunday.

From the outset Tara set the early pace and piled the pressure on Murphy's defence and, when Denise Gilligan found Rosie Naughton, Rosie had no trouble in finding the back of the Murphys' net.

A point each by Tara captain Ann Gleeson and Bid Grennan then saw Tara take a commanding lead.

Aussie Rosie Cusack played a stormer at centre back, cutting off much supply to the dangerous Laureena Murphy, who still managed to score two great points from play.

Bid Grennan came into the fore again and knocked a ball in to Niamh Pentony at corner forward and Pentony made no mistake in putting it over the bar.

Grennan herself scored a superb point from the 45 area after blocking down a Murphys attack, taking Tara into half time up by 1-4 to 0-2.

On the resumption Tara lost their focus for a couple of minutes, allowing Murphys a goal. But Tara were determined they weren't letting the lead go and Grennan stepped up to the mark and pointed from play.

Liz McGrath for Murphys replied with a point of her own, despite Mags Heneghan's efforts to keep her out.

At a pivotal stage in the game, where the next score would give either team the upper hand and the momentum to push on and win, Grennan found herself in acres of space, ran at the defence, and rattled the net to give Tara a bit more breathing space.

Grennan pointed again, but any chance for Murphys to resurrect this game was firmly put to bed 10 minutes from the end of the game with a goal each from Tara's Niamh Pentony and Rosie Naughton.

It was a resilient Tara team show, with each one competing in their own personal battles.

The Senior Championship is wide open now, and the coming weeks will surely be interesting.
