MARK HARPER admits Dave Tarpey has proven him wrong after showing his finishing prowess once more in Hampton & Richmond’s FA Trophy win over Hayes & Yeading on Saturday.

The former winger, now converted to a striker, netted a second-half brace as the Beavers swept aside their Blue Square Premier opponents at Beveree and stormed into the second round.

Tarpey’s double follows his hat-trick in the previous round, and Beavers boss Harper admits he has been surprised by how well his new hitman has taken to his new role.

Harper said: “I’m very happy with the result. Usually, kicking up that hill in the second-half, we tend to sit a little bit deep, but in fairness we were always on the front foot.

“Dave has looked a threat ever since I put him through the middle. He has proved me wrong because I always said he wasn’t a forward, but he has gone out there and scored plenty of goals."
