GARY Alexander headed home his fourth goal of the season as Brentford came from behind to beat high-flying Peterborough.

The Bees striker powered the ball past Posh keeper Joe Lewis early into the second-half after Craig Woodman had cancelled out Grant McCann's opener.

The visitors took the lead in controversial fashion after 20 minutes.

Mickey Spillane was adjudged to have handled George Boyd's cross, only for Ben Hamer to keep out McCann's spot-kick.

However, the linesman ordered a re-take as the Bees keeper came off his line, and McCann made no mistake the second time around.

But Brentford were back on terms six minutes before the break.

Charlie MacDonald , who had squandered two good chances to level, was hauled down 25 yards from goal. Woodman's free-kick squeezed through a crowded box to catch out Lewis and nestle into the back of the net.

However, the former England U21 international had to be at his best moments later to keep out Alexander's point-blank effort as the sides went in at the break level.

But the former Millwall front man was on the scoresheet 14 minutes after the interval when Sam Wood nodded Woodman's centre across goal, and Alexander powered home a header from eight yards out.

Andy Scott's side had chances to wrap up victory, with Alexander among the guilty, but they held on for a deserved second win on the spin.
