FORMER Harlequins and England hero Peter Winterbottom was among those who pulled on a rugby shirt once more to pay tribute to Old Isleworthians stalwart Tony Winslade.

The testimonial match took place at Wood Lane last Sunday between an Old Isleworthians XV and a Harlequins Amateurs XV, who Winterbottom featured for.

Winslade, known as 'The Don' at the Memorial Ground, is seen as the man who kept the club going for many years, serving as both president and chairman at various times.

The 65 year old has been with the club through thick and thin since 1970, and even squeezed a red, white and blue shirt on once more for his special game.

Current Old Is player Tom Newberry said: “We were discussing with Harlequins letting Tony have a try or two for his testimonial, but before they got a chance to he set off on a blistering run and got a perfectly legitimate try of his own!”

The Old Is first team could have done with something like that on the Saturday as they paid the price for a poor first half and went down 27-12 at Ickenham in Herts/Middx Two.

Ickenham stormed into a first half lead, and although the Old Is forwards had a good second half and scored tries through Lewis Abbot and Darren West, Tom Cresswell converting once, it was not enough and they are still searching for their first win of the season.
