MIKE Grella broke his Brentford duck with four goals as the Bees hit Bournemouth for six at Griffin Park.

The former Leeds United frontman tore the visitors apart on only his second start for his new club following his move from Elland Road earlier this season as the hosts cruised into the last eight of the JPT.

The Bees had almost fallen behind inside three minutes when Scott Malone's header bounced back off both posts before being cleared to safety.

But it was Brentford who broke the deadlock shortly after. Clayton Donaldson passed the ball back for Saunders to lash home left-footed across Shwan Jalal into the far corner.

Myles Weston came close to adding a second, only to see his curling effort tipped over by the Bournemouth keeper.

However, the hosts did double their lead midway through the half. Saunders sent in a teasing corner from the left, and Grella swooped to head home his first goal for the club.

Weston and Toumani Diagouraga almost added a third as Uwe Rosler's men went in with a deserved 2-0 lead at the break.

But they did find the net again less than three minutes after the restart when Grella slotted the ball under Jalal after neat work by Saunders and Diagouraga.

Michael Symes almost pulled a goal back for the visitors, but his close-range effort clipped the top of the crossbar.

And it was the Bees who added another when Logan mugged Malone in the box, and Adam Barrett turned the former Manchester City full-back's cross into his own net.

Grella wrapped up his hat-trick when he headed home Diagouraga's teasing cross, then the American scored his fourth and Brentford's sixth moments later.

He almost bagged a fifth in stoppage-time, but his cheeky chip came back off the post.

BEES: Lee, Logan, Eger, Llera (Legge 72), Woodman, Douglas, Diagouraga, Saunders (McGinn 54), Weston, Donaldson (Alexander 60), Grella.

Subs (not used): O'Connor, Adams.
