NICKY Forster is among 10 applicants who have already thrown their hats in the ring for the vacant manager’s job at Hayes and Yeading United.

Director of Football Tony O’Driscoll confirmed the figure last night - less than 72 hours after Garry Haylock left United by mutual consent.

O’Driscoll also revealed the majority of applications were from managers with experience in the Football League, one of whom is known to be former Brentford boss Forster.

Two men who have managed in the Conference have also declared an interest, while two other interested parties have no previous managerial experience.

O’Driscoll himself declared he was not really up for the job, while other names linked to the post, like Johnson Hippolyte and Gordon Bartlett, appear to have also distanced themselves.

O’Driscoll said: "If it is a full-time position, which I would expect it to be, then there is no way I could run it with the job I have. And even if it were part-time we are going to have a number of candidates with vastly more experience of management than me."

On former boss Hippolyte, currently with Maidenhead and for whom O’Driscoll was coach in his previous spell at the Warren, he said: "I spoke to Drax last week when he knew something was afoot with Garry [Haylock] and he has shown no interest in the position whatsoever."

Bartlett, a former player with Hayes and boss of Yeading in their hour of FA Vase triumph told the Gazette: "I won’t be applying for the job.

"In all fairness I was in line for the job once before but the plug was pulled at the last minute."

Forster would appear to be the only man known to have declared his intentions on the non-league radio show on Monday night but has yet to hear anything from the club.

The 37-year-old was offered the job at Newport last season and was a candidate for Swindon, and while he does not have non-league experience, his agent Darren Lewis thinks his links to the likes of Sunderland boss Steve Bruce make him a good candidate for United.

He said: "Nicky has a lot of contacts all over the league so people will do him the sort of favours, which will help him get players in on loan and wheel and deal on a tight budget."
