Middlesex County League Eastcote 194-6 Brondesbury 194-7 Losing draw for Eastcote

A RUN-OUT from the last ball of the match gave Eastcote a point from a losing draw after a thrilling rain-affected encounter at Brondesbury on Saturday.

The visitors looked doomed to defeat when Brondesbury's Liam Cunnah levelled the scores with a huge six off the penultimate delivery of the game. But the same player couldn't connect properly with the final ball and Eastcote escaped with a draw.

It was just reward for a fine fight-back by the visitors, for whom Alan Coleman had earlier broken a potentially match-winning stand of 117 for the third wicket between Tom Simpson and Will Vandelspar, bowling the latter for 55.

Their opponents still needed only 45 more to win at that stage, and 13 off an over from Simpson took the target to 24 needed from four overs.

Eastcote clearly needed another hero and he arrived in the shape of David Goodchild. He scattered Simpson's stumps for 84 to spark panic in the Brodesbury ranks, and a series of run-outs followed as they came up short.

Earlier, the Southill Lane side had posted a score of 194-6 with several useful contributions.

Tom Scollay (45) and Adam Rossington (33) laid the foundations, built on by Goodchild's 37. Chris James (25) and Coleman added more useful runs late on, before the drama of the Brondesbury reply unfolded.
