SWIMMING: Ealing Swimming Club came a respectable second to home side Ipswich in the first round of the 2008 Speedo league.
With a total of 12 first, 17 second and 10 third places - the club claimed top-three places in 39 of the 50 events.
Ealing were nearly fifty points ahead of London neighbours Wandsworth who were third.
First places went to Gina Heyn (4x50m medley and 100m breaststroke); Lauren Turner and Ramsey Haroun (both in 100m backstroke); Joao Matias (100m butterfly); Lauren Turner and Melako Coker (both in 100m butterfly); and Jenna Turner and Charlie Turner (both in open 100m freestyle races).
Three relay teams came first - the U13 boys' team of Alex Bandarian, Ade Coker, Eamon Haroun and Sebastien Bordonnat who won their medley race and the men's team of Tariq Miller, Kyle Barratt, Connor Barrat and Charlie Turner who took the open medley and the 6x50m freestyle where they were joined by Joao Matias and Melako Coker.
Gina Heyn, Polly Kemp-King and Emily Orrock and the freestyle team where they were joined by Charlotte Fairclough and Lauren Turner; the 9-11 years medley team of Maisie Jameson, Claire Jansen, Lucy Thornton and
Elena Love; the 9-11 years medley team of Aaron Pullen, Omar Haroun, Joseph Sheehan and Kieran Clarke; and the U13 freestyle team of Alex Bandarian, Sebastien Bordonnat, Eamon Haroun and Rohan Singh.
Third places were achieved by both the 9-11 boys and girls freestyle teams and the U13 and U15 girls' medley teams.
The second round of the Speedo League takes place on November 8.
Ealing Swimming Club was also well represented on the Middlesex team which competed in Division One of the Intercounties match held at Sheffield.
The county side finished third overall just seven points behind winners Lancashire. This was their best ever placing largely due to the success of the relay teams which were all 4x50m medley events with the exception of a mixed 6x50m freestyle.
The boys' 16/17 years team, which included Tariq Miller, came first, as did the girls' 14/15 years team with Lauren Turner and the mixed freestyle team which included Lauren and Elizabeth Griskova.
The 14/15 years team with Melako Coker and Ramsey Haroun came second and the 16/17 years team, with Elizabeth Griskova, came third.
Individually, Tariq Miller was third in the 16/17 years 100m breaststroke and fifth in the 100m freestyle. Lauren Turner was fifth in the 14/15 years backstroke and ninth in the 100m freestyle. Ramsey Haroun was sixth in the 100m backstroke and Melako Coker eighth in the 100m breaststroke.
The majority of the times swum were personal bests and Melako's breaststroke time was a new junior squad record.
Ealing's assistant head coach Allan Thornton was a member of the County Team Coaching staff.

In the relay events, there were second places for the U15 boys' team of Melako Coker, Tom Brommage, Craig Pedersen and Ramsey Haroun in both the freestyle and the medley races; the U15 girls' freestyle team of Georgia Watt, Charlotte Fairclough, Lauren Turner and Francesca Garland; the open medley team of Jenna Turner,
