NOT even the addition of Ugo Ehiogu to Wembley's squadron of stars could ensure a safe passage into the first qualifying round of the FA Cup on Sunday.

With no Graeme Le Saux, Ray Parlour or Brian McBride this time, sponsors Budweiser this time drafted in Ehiogu for Wembley's preliminary round tie at Uxbridge.

Claudio Caniggia was the only one of their legion of ex-internationals who started against Langford in the last round to line up again, while Martin Keown was on the bench once more,

And it was Caniggia who had the first sight of goal, latching onto a poor back-header from Rob Fitzgerald, but only able to find the arms of keeper John Peacock, while Daryl Atkins was just wide with a cross-shot.

The warning signs were not heeded, however, and Wembley took the lead on 24 minutes when, after Kevin Warner has blocked Paul Shelton's initial shot, the Lions striker was allowed the time and space to find his way around Peacock and pick his spot.

Uxbridge fought back, with Warner putting a Max Howell cross just wide before Mark Smith saw both his initial shot and follow-up effort blocked.

But after Conor Carroll headed wide from an Ian Bates free-kick, Wembley went in 2-0 up at the break when Atkins fired brilliantly into the top corner from the edge of the area after Jumo Mitchell had air-kicked a cross from Caniggia.

Peacock turned over another thunderbolt from Atkins after the interval, while at the other end, Matty Woods somehow managed to miss with the goal gaping after Wembley failed to clear their lines.

A Caniggia shot then looped into Peacock's grateful arms following a block by Fitzgerald, but the game turned on its head with 20 minutes left with two quick-fire Barnet goals.

First, Warner curled in a superb free-kick from the edge of the area after Moore was brought down. Then, barely a minute later, Moore himself took advantage of a defensive lapse to finish in the far corner from the right hand edge of the area.

With time running out, Atkins missed a gilt-edged chance to wrap it up for Wembley when he managed to put Paul McComb's cross over from the edge of the six-yard box.

But Moore could have won it for Uxbridge at the other end in the final minute, but was denied by a great save from Lions keeper Lee Pearce
