Mountain bike specialist Robert Bordi seems determined to cash in on the national love-affair with cycling after the Beijing Olympics by being crowned London Junior Criterium Champion.

The 18-year-old from Hanwell won the title after a 40-mile race in wet and windy conditions at Hog Hill - a new, undulating, two-mile circuit in Redbridge which will feature in the London Olympics in 2012.

It comes after competing in the junior national championships and the Tour of Wales - a 270-mile three-day event at the end of August, when he raced against the best juniors in the country as well as riders representing Belgium, Denmark and Holland.

Bordi has been racing for three years for his club Beyond Mountain Bikes - which also races on roads and tracks. Since he finished college back in June, he has been able to put more hours into his training - an average of about 200 miles a week this summer.
