JONATHAN Douglas insists he's got nothing to prove as he prepares to face former club Swindon Town tomorrow night.

The Brentford midfielder returns to the County Ground for the first time since being shown the exit door following relegation from League One 18 months ago.

Douglas made 95 appearances for the Robins, scoring one goal, during his two-year stint at the club, but they failed to take up the option on his contract and he moved to Griffin Park on a free transfer instead.

Swindon have enjoyed a resurgence under Paolo Di Canio and sit in third place as they continue to ride the wave following promotion last season.

However, Douglas insists he's got no regrets over his departure as the Bees look to keep up their play-off bid in Wiltshire.

“I had a great time there but that's finished now,” said the Irishman. “I don't feel I have anything to prove.

“I loved my spell there, especially the first year when we got to the play-off final. We played really well but lost to Millwall 1-0.

“The second season was disappointing. We got rid of Charlie Austin and Billy Paynter, who had scored something like 40 or 50 goals between them, and never replaced them so it was always going to be a struggle. The team was ripped apart and we suffered.

“I wasn't offered a new deal – the club didn't take up the option on my contract. I never ruled out staying despite relegation but they never offered me anything so I didn't have a choice.

“Brentford came in and offered me something so I decided to sign for them instead.

“All I'm concentrating on is doing my best for Brentford.”
