EALING Trailfinders came within a whisker of a staggering century of points as they put poor Newbury Blues to the sword with 16 tries - six of them by wing Owen Bruynseels.

The home crowd at Vallis Way was treated to a 94-0 rout in wet conditions not especially conducive to running rugby.

But Newbury, who arrived having lost their first four games in National Two South, had no answer to their hosts' pace and strength.

Ealing were clinical from the word go and were on the board within a minute as Bruynseels collected the ball after No 8 Matt Evans burst through the Newbury defence and dotted down.

Neil Hallett stretched the lead to 7-0. Bruynseels turned provider when collecting a deft crossfield kick by captain Ben Ward, offloading to centre Joe Price who crossed for his first of the day.

Will Clarke missed a kickable penalty for Newbury and there was no respite at the other end.

England U20 hooker Rob Buchanan's momentum took him over the line with 15 minutes on the clock, Bruynseels' second try on 23 minutes bought with it the four-try bonus point.

Further touchdowns followed from wing Pete Hodgkinson, Markus Burcham, Jay King and Bruynseels' hat-trick effort to make it 48-0 at half-time.

Bruynseels bagged three more in the second half with Price, Matt Evans, Sam Wardingly, Simon Bundy and replacement prop Sonny Kuwana adding to Newbury's pain. Neil Hallett ended with 10 points to his name and Ben Ward four.

Ealing go to Bristol to face Clifton tomorrow (Saturday, 2.30pm).

"Playing Clifton on their home ground is never an easy task," said Bruynseels. "They are a good team who have always played attractive rugby. As a team we are looking to continue our good start and will use this week in training to focus on our areas for development, ensuring we are fully prepared for the match."
