Wealdstone began a busy week of pre-season action with defeat against Graeme Montgomery's Dagenham & Redbridge at St George's Stadium tonight (Monday). The game, arranged as part of the former Stones winger's January 2009 switch to Victoria Road, was the first of four in seven days for Gordon Bartlett's men and for many fans provided the first glimpse of summer signing Scott Fitzgerald plus several trialists.

Three were named in the starting XI - goalkeeper Shane McWeeney, Chalfont St Peter left-back Lee Togwell and centre-half Wes Parker, who enjoyed spells with Grimsby Town and Gainsborough Trinity.

After weathering some good early Stones pressure the visitors took a 34 th minute lead through Lee Tomlin, whose cushioned back-post header left former Tranmere Rovers and QPR stopper McWeeney grasping at air.

Barely five minutes later and Tomlin doubled the League One new boys' lead, side-footing home at the second attempt from close range after McWeeney had parried his initial shot back into his path.

Montgomery entered the fray for the start of the second half and made an immediate impact. His long range drive bounced wickedly in front of McWeeney and Josh Scott was on hand to tuck away the rebound.

Trialists Chris Clarke, Kenny Ojukwu and goalkeeper Roman Pechhanger were given late run outs while Sean Cronin remained the only unused substitute.

The visitors continued to dominate for long spells but Greg Ngoyi netted late on as Stones fell to their second successive 3-1 pre-season defeat.

On Wednesday the Stones host a Watford XI before hitting the road to Aylesbury (Saturday) and Hillingdon Borough (next Tuesday).

Wealdstone: McWeeney (Pechhanger), Togwell (Ngoyi), Chappell (cpt), Parker, Massey, Ashe (Clarke), Smith (Brooks, 38), O'Leary, E'Beyer, Fitzgerald (Ojukwu), Spendlove (Osborne).
