IT looks like Uxbridge will have few problems stepping up if they are promoted to Herts/Middx Division One next season.

The Gatting Way side took time out from chasing the Herts/Middx Two title on Saturday when they took on Harlequins Amateurs, from the league above, in the RFU Junior Vase.

And they put on a four-try show to cause a cup upset, starting with a Jamie Dack effort after the hosts lost the ball straight from their kick-off.

Full back Mark Wilson got a second try, converted by Michael Weymouth, to make it 12-0 at the break, and Weymouth added the extras once more when centre Hamilton Reed went over after the interval.

A final try from scrum half Matt Jackson put the icing on the cake, much to the delight of Uxbridge head coach Gareth Elliott.

He said: “That hopefully shows we should be able to mix it at the level above, but the big plus for us was the clean sheet – we defended really well.

“The front row were superb, as were the pack, and we scrummaged really well. Props Rob Smith and Lewis Edwards were outstanding, while flanker Jake Lamport had a fine debut.”
