ANY QPR fan hoping for a flurry of new faces over the next few days can think again.

Despite the appointment of new boss Mark Hughes ready to sign cheques worth up to £20million this week, chief executive Phil Beard has warned he does not expect to do business for another week or so.

“We’re only in the second week of January, and it’s a notoriously slow time for transfers,” he said. “All clubs are working to bring new players in, and it’s a slow process.

“We know from experience it gets busy right at the end, and even with Mark on board I don’t think it’s going to be any different.”

Rangers have targeted Chris Samba at Blackburn, Wayne Bridge at Manchester City and Alex from neighbours Chelsea to bolster their back line.

But Beard and co remember the last two days of the August transfer window where they signed four players right at the death, with the CEO racing up the Loftus Road stairs hotly pursued by Anton Ferdinand to make sure the defender’s transfer reached the FA by the 11pm deadline.
