Chelsea FC groundswoman Daisy Downs wants to make a pitch - but not the one at Stamford Bridge.

The lush turf she tends daily in Fulham Road is coming along nicely for the new season - but the Fulham Ladies Darts League on Tuesdays is parched by comparison.

The women-only arrows missus and miss used to number 30 teams in the recent past, now, it’s down to just four.

Downs, who also represents a London side in national darts competitions, as well as Lions in the West London League on Thursdays, believes one of the major reasons for the damsel demise is fewer pubs.

“Closures haven’t helped,” she added, “but it would be nice to have say, another six teams, and around 36 more players.

“We can’t remain as just four teams. Playing each other all the time won’t really work.”

Downs was a keen gardener at her home in Fulham Court before she learned her trade with Chelsea.

Fulham League females: Ladies with silver-wear

Her other skill saw her finish as the league’s ladies singles winner, and together with others from The Welly Belles team - named after the Wellington pub in Haldane Road - she also achieved the highest checkout of the season, a whopping 128.

Others in the league also had a good campaign.

Amelia Barnham and Olivia Bryant both notched 180s while Karen Bryant, Dympna Gaffney, Josie Osborne, Audrey Joyce, Karen McAnea, Agnes Moyes, Sue Cox, June Sillitoe, Bonnie Jimenez, Patricia Baker, Jayne Dooley, Gill Woolcott, Amelia Barnham, Anne Marie Heneghan, Hannah Bryant and Frankie Dooley all picked up awards.
