FANS of camogie are in for a treat this weekend with the annual seven-a-side jamboree taking place at Tir Connaill Park, Greenford, on Saturday.

Teams from Galway, Dublin, Derry, Oxford, Birmingham and Liverpool will be travelling to the event, hosted by Tara Camogie Club.

Holy Cross from Tipperary, the reigning senior cup winners who have lifted the trophy for the past two years, are unable to defend their title, so there will be a new name on the cup. There is also a senior plate trophy and junior cup and plate competitions.

There are 11 teams in the senior event - four of them from London. They are Fr Murphy's, who reached last year's senior cup final, Croydon, Brother Pearces and Tara. With the London Senior League just around the corner, this will be good preparation for the forthcoming season. The travelling teams for the senior cup include Craughwell (Galway), Liverpool Hope University, Na Magha (Derry), Craoibh Chairainn (Dublin), and Kevins (Dublin).

Former Craughwell star Denise Gilligan is now captain of Tara's senior team after moving to London and there is sure to be a great battle if Tara come face to face with Craughwell. Teams contesting the junior cup and plate include Erin Go Bragh (Birmingham), newly-formed John Mitchells (Birmingham), Oxford University, London shinty team Camanachd, Tara, Croydon and Green Isles.

Tara are favourites to retain the Junior cup they won last year and they are confident after getting one win and two draws under their belt in the London Junior League so far.

Registration for teams is 10am with games to begin at 10.30am.

Entry is free.
