DAVID Button has vowed to establish himself as Brentford's number one following his switch to Griffin Park.

The Bees moved swiftly to plug the gap left by Simon Moore's departure to Cardiff City with the capture of the 24-year-old Charlton keeper earlier this week.

Button came through the ranks at Spurs but made just one substitute appearance for the north Londoners, spending time out on loan at 11 clubs.

He racked up more than 100 appearances during spells with Grays, Rochdale, Luton, Bournemouth, Dagenham, Crewe, Shrewsbury, Plymouth, Leyton Orient, Doncaster and Barnsley before moving to Charlton last summer.

However, the form of ex-Bee Ben Hamer restricted Button to just six appearances at the Valley last campaign.

But with Richard Lee still sidelined with a shoulder injury and Jack Bonham just a rookie, the former Spurs shot-stopper will start at Port Vale tomorrow.

And Button has vowed to grab his new chance with both hands.

He said: “I felt it was the right time to leave Spurs and I was hoping I could've established myself at Charlton.

“In an ideal world things would've been different and I would've played more games, but it wasn't to be.

“I'll try and use this season as a platform to kick on. I've got another chance to do that here and it's up to me to take it.

“I'm aware of how well Simon Moore has done but I'm confident I can do just as good a job, if not better, this season and help the team to go one better and get promoted.”
