Teenage Ickenham fencer Jasmine Porter is on the road to glory, according to current British senior champion Dominique Szokolovics.

The 14-year-old, who is a year nine pupil at Vyners School and fences at clubs at Rickmansworth, Ealing and Hillingdon, last week retained the Hertfordshire Senior championships title that she won in 2014 in Hatfield.

She said: “I was happy to win the Hertfordshire Championships again and I hope to retain the county under-20 title in April as well. My result in the under-17 championships was very useful as it will help me with my seeding for next season’s events where I hope to get selection for the Great Britain under-17 team.”

Porter won all nine bouts that she fought in the day to leave her Hertfordshire county champion at under-14, under-20 and senior level – a feat which has never been achieved before.

This was not the only recent success for Porter as last month she came 16th in the British under-17 championships at the University of East London and beat the number four seed and current Great Britain youth international 15-12 along the way.

Szokolovics, who coaches Porter, knows a thing or two about the sport as the country’s top fencer and believes her young prospect has all the ingredients to follow in her footsteps.

She added: “Jasmine has been working really hard recently and showed great tenacity and technique to come back from 10-4 down to win against a current GB international and this bodes well for her future as she still has two years to go at under-17 level. If she continues to show the same level of commitment then she will have a great future in the sport.”
