BRENTFORD conceded a goal deep into stoppage-time as they went down at Peterborough.

Marc Laird's second-half equaliser looked like earning the Bees a point, only for Jonathan Obika to earn the hosts victory two minutes into added time.

The visitors shot themselves in the foot inside three minutes when Pim Balkestein – making his first start since getting sent-off against MK Dons in November - tripped George Boyd in the box, and Grant McCann chipped his spot-kick down the middle.

But the Bees were almost back on terms almost immediately, only for wantaway keeper Joe Lewis to somehow parry Marcus Bean's point-blank header.

However, they eventually got back on terms after the break.

Lewis produced a superb double save to deny Bean and Mickey Spillane , but the former England U21 keeper could do nothing about the leveller seconds later.

Myles Weston's curling shot came back off the inside of the post, but Millwall loanee Laird was on hand to prod home the rebound in front of the 186 travelling fans.

However, Obika had the last laugh when he slammed home Craig Mackail-Smith's overhead kick to earn Posh victory.

BEES: Lee, Spillane, Osborne, Balkestein, Woodman, Laird, O'Connor, Bean, Weston, MacDonald, Alexander (Forster).

Subs (not used): Royce, McCracken, Wright, Bush, Diagouraga, Simpson.
