STRIKER Carl Cort is set to stay at Brentford until the end of the season.

The Bees have opened talks with the former Newcastle frontman about extending his current contract, which is due to expire in the new year.

Cort revealed a string of clubs are trying to hijack Brentford’s bid to keep him at Griffin Park, but the 32-year-old target man wants to stay in west London.

He said: "We’ve had a brief chat and the club are keen for me to stay on until the end of the season.

"When I signed a short-term deal in the summer it was a chance for me to prove I’m over my knee injury and that I can play at this level.

"There’s been interest from other League One clubs, which is a confidence boost, but I love it at Brentford, and would be happy to put pen to paper."
