SEEING Hereford celebrate promotion on his manor last year has inspired Brentford boss Andy Scott to success this season.
Hereford secured promotion from League Two this time last year with a 3-0 win at Griffin Park on the penultimate day of the season.
But this time it was Brentford’s turn, all but doing the same with a win over Accrington Stanley by the same scoreline on Saturday.
Scott said: "I left the dressing room door open when Hereford were celebrating here last year and told the players I wanted it to be us.
"I hated the fact someone else was celebrating promotion on our own ground, and I was determined it would be us this year.
"We wanted that feeling, and I’ve been working hard every day since to achieve it. The players know to get promoted will be a massive achievement."
With Brentford’s superior goal difference, a draw at Dagenham on Tuesday should be enough to clinch promotion.
However, a win would make sure of it, and could even land the League Two title if Wycombe fail to beat Luton on the same night.
Scott said: "There wasn’t quite the same buzzing atmosphere we had at Bournemouth against Accrington as it was so comfortable.
"But I think Dagenham may be in for a bit of a surprise on Tuesday."
Brentford were in control from the moment Sam Williams looped a header home from Karleigh Osborne’s long through-ball five minutes in.
And the game was over just before the break when Ryan Dickson doubled the lead with a classy strike - his first for the club.
He cut in from the left before beating a visiting defender with a sublime dummy, shifting the ball onto his weaker right foot before finishing with aplomb in the far corner.
Billy Clarke exorcised the ghost of his penalty miss against Exeter after the break, wrestling the ball from David Hunt before smashing the ball home after Williams was shoved in the back.
Scott added: "You have to have a different kind of character to be a goalscorer, and Billy has got it in abundance.
"I though Hunty was quite brave to try and get the ball off him!"
