PIM Balkestein's loan spell at AFC Wimbledon has been cut short due to a foot injury.

The Brentford defender was due to return to Griffin Park after the Dons' game with Rotherham tomorrow, but scans have shown the Dutchman has suffered a broken toe.

Terry Brown earlier this week told the Chronicle that he is unlikely to make a permanent move for the centre-back in the summer due to his wage demands.

Balkestein made six appearances for the Dons, winning three matches.
