UWE Rosler refused to blame Marcello Trotta for the penalty miss which cost Brentford promotion today – despite admitting the Italian was not his first choice taker.

Needing to win and with the game goalless, the Bees won a penalty deep into injury time, leading to a wrestling match between Trotta and Kevin O'Connor for the ball.

It was Trotta who placed the ball down, but smashed his spot kick off the underside of the bar before Doncaster broke and scored the winning goal, sending them up instead.

Bees boss Rosler said: “Marcello Trotta was not my first choice. But it's very important that we be responsible as a group of players and me as a manager for this situation. We have to keep our heads cool and follow the instructions we are given.

“We are not hanging anybody out here, we need them all. I've made everybody responsible for it, and that's all I will say on it. We need everybody for next Saturday, and we will deal with it internally.

“I was certain we would score (the penalty), but when I saw what happened out there I was not so sure.”
