AUSTRALIA'S best rugby league team will take on Harlequins RL in February.

NRL champions Melbourne visit the Twickenham Stoop on February 28 as part of their preparations for their World Club Challenge match with Leeds Rhinos a week later.

It is not the first time London's only full time rugby league side has hosted the NTL Champions; Manly Sea Eagles took part in the inaugural London Rugby League Challenge in February this year.

Head coach Brian McDermott said: "Melbourne and Harlequins share similarities in that we both play outside of the 'rugby league heartland' in our respective countries but have proved over the years we can compete at the top level."

Meanwhile, Quins will start their Super League season at home to Wakefield Wildcats on January 30.

The fixture is a week earlier than other clubs to allow for the match with Storm. And in July, the club will experiment with a Friday night game against Bradford Bulls.

McDermott added: "Night time games have a certain atmosphere about them. Friday nights at the Stoop are new for us and I'm looking forward to giving it a go."
