Brave Tin-Tin Ho put her body on the line to help Middlesex to table tennis glory — and paid for it big time.

The Commonwealth Games silver medallist and England number one junior was already suffering with foot problems when she competed in the county championships, but felt if her team had any chance she had to appear.

The Bayswater prodigy won all her matches and Middlesex duly won gold, but according to dad Charles, she suffered ‘irreversible damage’ to both feet and is now receiving urgent medical attention in a bid to make the European Youth Championships in July at Bratislava.

Recovering: Ho

Ho senior explained: “She won her matches but it resulted in the irreversible damage to her injuries to both feet: Plantar fasciitis and Achilles tendinitis.

“She has been receiving weekly physio treatments and podiatrist attention since the tournament and has to wear specially ordered tailored orthotics from Canada.

“At present, she is still resting in accordance to professional advice. She did try to train but it did not help. It has been a real struggle as we have to rely on self-help.”

The problem first appeared at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow last year (see video).

However, it returned in February at the English Senior Nationals. Dad suggested daughter forgo the tournament, but Tin-Tin competed anyway winning three golds and a silver.

The following week she put her best, but injured feet forward for Middlesex.

“That additional effort and sheer determination did make her injuries worse," Charles Ho added.

“Throughout the resting period, she is finding time to do physical exercises and services and her mind is still focused on recovery, training and forth-coming competitions.

“She is looking forward to the European Youth Championships and subsequent privately arranged training in China in August.”
