George Groves takes charge of his ‘secret’ bolt hole in Hammersmith this morning where he lays down final markers in his bid to become super-middleweight world champion.

More than 80,000 will be at Wembley on Saturday to see the fight of the year against Carl Froch in their second meeting for the IBF and WBA crowns, with another 250 million watching around the world on pay TV.

But 26-year-old Groves has returned to his roots after a five-month hunt, not a stone’s throw from where he was brought up in King Street, and revealed exclusively to Get West London the premises tailored to his needs.

The former Dale Youth BC boxer tops the bill in a multi-million pound extravaganza, and admitted amongst the glitz of a public workout in front of hundreds at the Westfield Shopping Centre in Shepherd’s Bush, delight at getting his own private gym.

“It’s at a secret location, and we’ve got it set up," he said.

“It’s a sanctuary more than anything else where I won’t get disturbed.

“The build up to these fights is getting so big we do stuff so well we want to keep it a secret, and moving there is good for the soul.”

Groves revealed he was four pounds over the 168 pounds (76.2 kilos) limit required before he steps on the scales tomorrow, but will shift it in his new Hammersmith hideaway.

He said: “It will be easy, and I’m looking forward to the fight.”
